Early stimulation for children 2 to 3 years old

The children 2 to 3 years are kind of whirlwind. Parents and children live an exciting period, since during this stage the little ones experience great intellectual, social, emotional and learning changes that will help them explore and understand their new world. To contribute to their development, it is important that they participate in stimulation exercises that present them with new situations. Normally, it is the nursery schools that are responsible for carrying out this task, however, and due to the difficulties inherent in the current situation, it is important that some activities be carried out at home.

Early Stimulation Exercises at Home for Children 2 to 3 Years

1. Mathematical classification

For this practical exercise you will need colored papers and paints, and egg cups. You just have to take pieces of different papers and make balls together with the children. Later, they will have to be classified in the holes in the egg cups, which will already be marked in different colors, following a series

This material can be saved for more use.

2. A fairy frog

To create it, a cardboard roll of toilet paper and a frog face previously drawn on paper will suffice. They should put the fingers of one hand inside the cardboard roll and with the other take the brush and paint it green. Then you have to glue the frog’s face onto the tube.

To stimulate gross motor skills , children can squat, jump, and walk to reach the frog, which will have been positioned somewhere in the room.

3. Transport circuit

On a large continuous paper you have to draw curved lines, ovals and meandering paths, all in wavy shapes. Later, the child with colored crayons will draw on it freely.

It is important to note if you are trying to make curves and close them, if you are trying to imitate the same drawings or if you do it in your own way and with different colors. When you don’t want to draw anymore, you will have to do the same with stickers. You can also see where you place them, if you do it on the circular lines, within the winding path or in any other space.

This creativity is fun for the child and interesting for the adults, who, through observation, can obtain a lot of information.

4. Sensory tray

To do it you need a plastic tray, water and floating objects (flowers, rubber animals, wooden sticks and colored straws).

If possible, it would be interesting for each object to represent a character from the story that they are reading at the time , in this way, they could represent the story themselves.

5. Microtheater

At this age children already speak, yes, some more than others. In any case, they use language to try to imitate what they hear.

This role-play activity consists of changing the role and having the child read a story to the adults . You can also play with dolls: tuck them in, feed them or put them to bed. Also, it can be practiced with future professions: hairdressers, doctors, veterinarians, firemen, journalists, teachers, architects, cooks (whatever they choose).

6. Homemade modeling clay

To make it, you need three cups of flour, one of fine salt and one of water, two to five tablespoons of oil (sunflower or olive) and food coloring (optional).

Children of this age can take the ingredients, pour them into a bowl and begin to make the mixture themselves. Once made, they will have to mold it and make figures with it (using molds). With this activity they will be working on fine motor skills .

7. Sensory bags

To do the experiment you need zip-lock bags, tape, and finger paint. You have to put a few drops of paint of different colors in the bag and close it. The children will discover the colors that are formed after each mixture .

8. Colorful macaroons

To begin, you need to put colored paints in several large-based containers. Afterwards, the children will roll the macaroons in the paint to color them. When they are dry they can join them with a string to make a necklace or put them in an empty water bottle and create a sensory bottle of colors. Another option is to sort the macaroni into trays marked with different colors.

9. Treasure Gymkhana

You have to hide three or four toys that the child likes in different corners of the room. Through clues that are given to them through language, they will look for the objects.

10. Yoga zen

You just have to direct the child to do yoga movements or relaxation exercises on a mat, with their eyes closed and with relaxing music in the background.

11. Pizza to taste

The children will have to spread fried tomato on a pizza base with a plastic knife. Later they will have to top with pieces of ham or their favorite ingredients. Finally, they will sprinkle cheese and oregano. With this exercise they will work the fine motor skills of the hand .
